Solitaire Spider 1 Suit is the popular Spider patience with large, easy-to-read cards in fullscreen. In Spider especially, many cards lie on top of each other, so the value and suit are clearly visible at the top edge of every card. That way the table stays easy to read even when it is full. Quick guide

• This is classic Spider Solitaire with large cards and in fullscreen.
• You can set the card size yourself.
• The first move: move the free cards in the columns and build them down (in Spider with one suit, for example, you put a seven of spades on an eight).
• If you can’t find a move, click “Hint” (at the top on a computer, at the bottom on phones and tablets). The game shows you whether a move is possible right now.

1, 2 or 4 suits

On a computer, you choose the difficulty at the top left:

• 1 suit: all cards are spades. The calmest and most relaxing variant.
• 2 suits: spades and hearts. Here you already have to plan more carefully: Spider Solitaire 2 suits, the classic and most popular variant.
• 4 suits: all four suits, the hardest variant for very experienced players (the fewest games are won here): Spider Solitaire 4 Suits.

How to make the cards bigger

With “Play in fullscreen” the table fills the whole screen, and the cards get bigger. Next to “Card size” you set the size you want with “−” and “+” (on a phone under “Appearance” → “Settings”). Under “Appearance” you can also choose the card deck, the table colour and dark mode.

Good to know about Spider

• Spider appeared in 1949 and is one of the most popular patience games played with two decks of cards.
• Why this name? It is usually explained by the eight legs of a spider. That is exactly how many sequences you have to build on the table to win.
• Spider became really well known through Windows, in the “Plus! 98” add-on pack for Windows 98. Later it was also part of Windows XP, Vista and 7.
• Difficulty: with one suit Spider is easy to win, with four suits it is very hard. With four suits, even good players win only about one game in three!

How to play

Goal of the game

Build sequences on the table from King down to Ace in one suit. Each complete sequence is removed from the table. When all eight sequences have been removed, you have won. A window then shows you how many moves you made and how long the game took.

Layout

The game is played with two decks of cards, that is, 104 cards. There are ten piles on the table, and only the top card of each pile is face up. The remaining 50 cards make up the stock.

Moves

You may put any card on a card one rank higher, whatever its suit (in Spider with 2 or 4 suits). But note: you can move several cards at once only if they form an ordered sequence in the same suit.

Any card may go on an empty space.

When there are no more moves, click the stock: each of the ten piles gets a new card. For this, there must be at least one card in every pile, so no space may be empty.

Tips for winning

• Try to build sequences in the same suit, as only these can be moved as a whole.
• An empty space is very valuable! Don’t fill it right away, use it to rearrange cards!
• First uncover the piles with the most face-down cards.
• Make all possible moves before you deal from the stock, because afterwards every pile has a new card on top. To check, you can always press “Hint” before dealing.

Average players online win about 50 to 90% of games with 1 suit, about 17 to 50% with 2 suits and about 6 to 15% with 4 suits. In our experience, a game with one suit takes about 7 minutes on average. Have fun playing!
